Woman injured before man reportedly shoots self
SOUTH POINT — A South Point man is dead, his wife hospitalized after a shooting early this morning at a home on Delores Avenue in South Point.
Robin D. Shepard, 50, told Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies she and her husband, Larry E. Shepard, 60, had argued earlier in the evening but she thought the situation had improved and she went to bed. Authorities said during this time, Larry Shepard reportedly got a gun and shot his wife in the upper torso. The woman told authorities she was able to escape from the bedroom and called police.
Sheriff Jeff Lawless said when his deputies arrived they found the Larry Shepard dead of a gunshot wound to the head. A handgun was found in his hand.
The woman was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., for treatment of his injuries.
“We are looking at this objectively,” Lawless said. Our initial investigation leads us to believe the man shot the woman and then turned the gun on himself.”
