A man who allegedly fired a handgun into the glass door of his residence has pleaded not guilty to the felonious assault charges he faces.
Wayne Freeman, 47, of 61 Township Road 84W, Willow Wood, pleaded not guilty in Judge Charles Cooper’s courtroom in Lawrence County Common Pleas Wednesday.
Freeman is charged with three counts of second-degree felonious assault and misdemeanor using a weapon while intoxicated. The alleged crimes occurred in January. The man’s wife and two acquaintances are his alleged victims, Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Smith said.
Each of his felonious assault charges also has a firearm specification. Second-degree felonies are punishable by up to eight years in prison. With a firearm specification, though, they are punishable with an additional three years, which a judge is required to run consecutively to other sentence, Cooper said.
Cooper transferred a $70,000 property bond from a lower court and scheduled a pretrial hearing for May 11.
In other cases:
Rodney D. Turvey, 36, of 305 County Road 103, Ironton, denied violating the terms of his community-controlled sanctions. Cooper set a CCS trial for May 4.
Alexa Keaton, 20, of 121 Township Road 1105, Proctorville, denied a CCS violation. Cooper set a CCS trial for May 11.
Tammy Montgomery, 42, of 308 Princess St., Ashland, Ky., admitted a CCS violation. Cooper order Montgomery to successfully complete the STAR community justice program, extended her CCS for one year, and reserved 11 months in prison, which could be imposed if she violates her CCS.
Michelle Harmon, 24, of 615 Monroe St., Ironton, admitted a CCS violation. Cooper sentenced her to six months in prison.
John M. Debelle, 26, of 607 N. Fifth St., Ironton, admitted a CCS violation. Cooper sentenced Debelle to 123 days in prison, which is the balance of the sentence that was reserved for him when he was placed on CCS.
