Ironton tennis team drops opening two matches

The Ironton Fighting Tigers’ tennis team opened the season on back-to-back days and suffered back-to-back losses.
In Tuesday’s opener, Ironton dropped a 3-2 decision to the Portsmouth Trojans.
Number one singles player Andrew Hicks lost to Ian Rowland 7-6, 0-6, 0-6, No. 2 Brennan Banks dropped 3-6, 0-6 match to Trevor Violette, and No. player Mason Weisgarber claimed a straight sets win over Justin Ottney, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles play, Ironton’s No. 1 team of Schular field and Jordan Sheridan lost to Carolina Khoury and Robbie Shugert by 0-6, 0-6.
The No. 2 team of Nathan Hale and Jon Shotsky beat Lori Keaton and Saxh Shugert 6-2, 6-1.
In Wednesday’s match, the Fighting Tigers fell 5-0 to the Minford Falcons.
Hicks to Noah Thiel by identical 1-6, 1-6 scores. Banks lost to Logan Conley 2-6, 0-6 and Hale fell to Bo Vallandingham 1-6, 1-6 in the No. 3 singles match.
Weisgarber and Tres Wilks were paired as the No. 1 doubles team and lost 1-6, 3-6 to Craig Miller and Henry Allen. Shotsky and Fields fell 0-6, 1-6 to Taylor Huff and Brett Taylor.
Ironton hosts Gallipolis at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
