HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — It’s easy for Fairland coach Joe Auxier to be biased toward his team, especially with a player like Amber Bias.

Bias went 2-4 with two doubles including the game-winning hit as the Lady Dragons beat the Huntington St. Joseph Lady Fighting Irish 6-3 in nine innings on Tuesday.

“We’re hitting the ball pretty good. Amber Bias is really smacking it,” said Auxier.

Bias’ hit gave Sashe Burcham the win. Burcham went the distance allowing six hits, striking out 14, walking five and hitting three in her first outing.

Sarah Sang took the loss as she fanned 12, walked five, hit two and gave up 10 hits.

Fairland took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a single by Chloe Stanley and a double by Bias.

The Lady Irish got a run in the fifth to tie the game, but Fairland went up with a run in the sixth when Stanley, Kerie Napier and Brianna Yates all reached on errors.

The Lady Dragons took a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh on walks to Jaimie Phillips and Burcham and a single by Stanley.

But St. Joseph tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Sang cranked a two-run homer.

After a scoreless eighth, Fairland got three runs in the ninth.

Phillips singled to start the inning. Burcham walked and Stanley had a sacrifice bunt. Chandler Fulks was safe on an error and Bias doubled home two runs.

Napier singled in an insurance run.

Stanley was 2-4 and Napier 2-5 for the Lady Dragons.
