‘Memory Lane’ picture brings back fond memories

I knew exactly who it was when I saw the picture of Alex Tollier in Sunday’s Tribune.

It was nice of Ralph Nazor to take a photo of him so as to preserve some history.

We used to see him walking along Center Street as folks used to do when there wasn’t so many cars. It was the thing to do. There were nice stores like Allyn’s, Klein’s, Dave’s, Grand Theatre, Woolworth’s, Kreseges, a bakery, etc.

When we would see Alex we would always stick out our hand to shake his. He’d always have a smile and a greeting for us. He was really important because at one time in his early life he had been a slave. We were glad he wasn’t anymore.

Thanks for publishing his picture. It brought back a pleasant memory of my childhood days gone by.
