The Coaches District 13 Player of the Year and North/South All-Star Game selection, Copley capped his senior season by being named to the Associated Press Division III All-Ohio first team Tuesday.

The Chesapeake Panthers 6-foot-2 senior guard was the AP Southeast District Co-Player of the Year along with Peebles’ Blake Justice. He averaged 14.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and shot an amazing 70 percent from 2-point range and 45 percent overall. He made 37 percent of his 3-point goals.

Copley — a four-year starter — wasn’t the only Panther named first team all-district or All-Ohio.

Austin McMaster — a 6-5 junior forward — was a third team All-Ohio member after leading the Panthers in scoring with a 18.9 average. He also had a 7.7 rebound average and hit 54 percent of his shots along with 74 percent from the line.

Chesapeake finished 23-2 on the season — both losses by one point — and were ranked second in the final AP poll. They won the Ohio Valley Conference and were regional runners-up after reaching the state tournament last year for the first time in school history.

Ironton Fighting Tigers’ 6-2 senior forward Travis Elliott was selected to the Special Mention team.

Named to the Division III honorable mention team were Ironton 5-8 sophomore guard Zac Carter, South Point 6-foot senior guard Blake Barnes and Chesapeake 6-6 senior center Colin Kennedy.

All three were second team all-district.

Barnes was named All-Ohio for the second straight season as he led the Pointers in virtually every category including a 20.3 scoring average. He eclipsed the 1,000-point career scoring mark while shooting 53 percent from the field.

Carter led Ironton with a 19.0 scoring average. He hit 58 percent of his floor shots and was 81 percent from the foul line.

Kennedy drew heavy attention from opponents with double and even triple teams but still averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds a game. He hit 48 percent of his shots and was 82 percent from the line.

In Division IV, Symmes Valley Vikings’ senior Luke Taylor and Green senior T.J. McCloud led the area All-Ohio selections.

A first team all-district pick, Taylor was named Special Mention as the 6-foot forward averaged 18.8 points and 13.5 rebounds while shooting 51 percent from the field.

The 6-3 McCloud helped Green win a share of the Southern Ohio Conference title along with Symmes Valley. He led the team with a 19.0 scoring average and was first team all-district.

Named to the honorable mention team was St. Joseph senior Tanner Riley.

Riley, a 5-11 forward, was a second team all-district selection and led the Flyers with 15.0 scoring average and 6.1 rebounds. He also had 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and shot 45 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the line. He hit 32 percent of his 3-point attempts.
