Nancy Bates

Nancy Clarice Bates, 75, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011, in Columbus. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 29, 1935, the daughter of the late Harlen and Annabell Thacker Moore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Bates, Jr.

Mrs. Bates attended Coal Grove Schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Abundant Life Church in Sheridan, where she was the church secretary for 25 years and a member of the praise team.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law: Brian Sr. and Celest Bates of Columbus, and Jetson Bates of Middletown; six grandchildren: TaRai Bates, JayShan Bates, Brian Bates Jr., Brad Bates, Christian Chappell and Megan Bates; a great grandchild, Seven Bates; a brother, Jerry Moore of Coal Grove; three sisters, Barbara Bryant of Ashland, Ky., Harleen Myatt of Flatwoods, Ky. and Beverly Smith of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Saturday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home, 509 S. Sixth Street, Ironton, with Rev. Scott Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
