Briggs Lawrence County Public Library’s Ironton branch is offering two technology programs Tuesday: one for the beginner and one for the more advanced user. During the “Computer Basics for Seniors” program at 2 p.m. Tuesday, participants will learn the very basics of computers, get hands-on experience and a free booklet with instructions. Space is limited so please register at the library or by calling (740) 532-1124. More experienced users who’ve embraced mobile smartphone technology are invited to spend “Appy Hour” at the Ironton library at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Share your favorite smartphone apps and learn about new apps for various smartphones. This program is also perfect for those who want to learn more about their phones and want to get the most out of them. Special guests from AT&T will answer your questions and talk about the latest smartphone technology.
Everyone’s invited to join a Briggs Library book discussion group. Two groups meet this week. The South Point library group will talk about “The Year of Pleasures” by Elizabeth Berg at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Ironton library evening group will discuss “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame Smith at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The Eastern Branch Library Knitting and Crochet Club will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday. Anyone interested in learning to knit or crochet as well as the experienced crafter is invited to join them. For information, call (740) 886-6697.
Kelley’s Bridge, the popular local Celtic music group, will perform next week at two Briggs Library locations to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day. Everyone’s invited to the group’s performance at the South Point library at 6 p.m. Monday, March 14 or the Brown Bag Lunch concert at the Chesapeake library at noon Tuesday, March 15.
Volunteers for AARP free tax preparation assistance program will be at the Chesapeake Branch Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday and at the Southern Branch Library in South Point from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. Assistance is provided on a first come-first served basis.
Basic income tax forms and instruction books provided by the Internal Revenue Service and Ohio Dept. of Taxation are available at Briggs Library locations.
The Briggs Library children’s department offers programs for homeschooling families twice a month at two locations. This week’s theme is “The Art of Alexander Calder.” Programs are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Main Library in Ironton and repeating at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Southern Branch Library in South Point. We’ll look at “The Art of Joseph Stella” at the March 22 and 23 programs. We’ll look at each artist and their work, and then create a piece of art inspired by their style. Everyone interested in learning to crochet as well as those already experienced at the craft is invited to the Crochet Club that meets at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Southern Branch Library in South Point. Beginners should bring a “G” or “H” crochet hook and yarn.
