The Cleveland Browns have reportedly signed backup quarterback Seneca Wallace and linebacker D’Qwell Jackson to new contracts, hours before both could become free agents.
Wallace, who started four games last season, received a multi-year deal and Jackson got a one-year contract, according to ESPN.com and The Plain Dealer.
A Browns spokesman said the team would not be announcing any moves on Thursday night. The player’s agents did not immediately return messages left by The Associated Press.
Wallace recently said he wanted to compete for a starting job, and the Browns have said Colt McCoy is their No. 1 QB. Wallace does have extensive background running the West Coast offense new Cleveland coach Pat Shurmur plans to install.
Jackson has missed most of the past two seasons with two torn chest muscles that required surgery. Jackson, who led the NFL in tackles in 2008, announced his return to the Browns on Twitter.
“I’m backk!!” he wrote. “It’s been a long time browns fans. Thanks to everyone I can assure you I won’t let you down!!”
