Two in jail following drug arrest on U.S. 52

SOUTH POINT — Two Wheelersburg women are in jail on drug charges following a traffic stop in South Point.
Mickey A. Petry, 51, and her sister, Georgetta K. Collins, 39, are in the Lawrence County Jail awaiting arraignment this morning in Ironton Municipal Court. Both are charged with felony violations of trafficking in Schedule I and Schedule IV drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Their car was stopped for a lane violation on U.S. 52 near the Ashland Bridge in Coal Grove at 10:22 p.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The two had come back from a trip to Florida.
“While officers talked to the vehicle’s occupants, one passenger surrendered several pills to the officers,” the release stated. “A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 455 Oxycontin tablets, 27 Xanax tablets and drug paraphernalia.”
The two women are to appear in municipal court at 9 a.m. Petry is also facing charges of operating a vehicle while impaired and failure to drive within marked lanes.
