John M. Deering

John M. Deering, 89, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Nov. 5, 1921, the son of the late Earl and Nellie Langdon Deering.

Mr. Deering attended Coal Grove schools and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a former employee for Case Driveway and Glenn Cartage Trucking Co. and a member of the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Foster and Doris Phelps; and a nephew, John Goldcamp He is survived by a son, William G. Deering of Anahuac, Texas; three grandchildren, Debra and John Obenhaus of California, William G. II and Sandra Deering of Texas  and John E. Deering of Texas; four great grandchildren; and a special niece, Julie Goldcamp of Deering.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Mullens officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be Monday from 10 until the time of the service at the funeral home.
