Lady Pointers finish unbeaten in OVC race

BIDWELL — The South Point Lady Pointers are hard to beat. They’ve been almost impossible to beat in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Lady Pointers proved their point to league foes Thursday as they beat the River Valley Lady Raiders 56-45 to finish unbeaten in the OVC for the third straight year.

South Point is 16-3 overall and 10-0 in the league. River Valley fell to 11-9 and 4-6.

Jalynn Braburn scored 23 points including three triples to lead the Lady Pointers. Kayla Fletcher scored 14 and Allison Fletcher added 10 as three players hit double figures.

Brooke Marcum had 11 points and Kaitlyn Roberts 10 to lead the Raiders.

South Point led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter and 33-24 at the break.

River Valley got within 35-28 with 5:38 in the third quarter before the Lady Pointers went on a9-0 run to end the quarter.

South Point opened up a 50-32 lead with 6:21 to play. The Lady Raiders went on a 13-6 run to end the game but it was not enough to erase the Pointers’ big lead.

South Point plays at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander High School in the Division II sectional tournament.
