UAB rolls past Thundering Herd 64-48; Ohio downs Toledo

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Cameron Moore had 18 points and 14 rebounds and Jamarr Sanders scored 17 points to lead Alabama-Birmingham to a 64-48 victory over Marshall in a Conference USA game Wednesday night.
Moore scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers, during a 17-6 run by the Blazers (17-6, 7-3) that gave them a 52-35 lead with 12:35 remaining.
The Thundering Herd (15-9, 3-6) never got closer than 14 points after that. UAB is 12-0 when holding opponents under 60 points.
Marshall’s final lead was 8-6 with 17:03 remaining in the first half. Moore tied the game with a jumper that began a 16-2 run, which included a pair of 3s by Dexter Fields.
UAB’s Aaron Johnson, who ranks third nationally in assists with 7.4 per game, had seven against Marshall and also scored 10 points.
Damier Pitts scored 19 points to lead Marshall and Tirrell Baines had 11.
Ohio 71, Toledo 58
ATHENS (AP) — Tommy Freeman scored 21 points to lead Ohio to a 71-58 win over Toledo on Wednesday night, extending the Rockets’ losing streak to six games.
The Bobcats (12-12, 5-5 Mid-American Conference) led 36-23 at halftime after shooting 14 of 29 from the floor (48.3 percent), including 7 of 16 from 3-point range (43.8 percent).
Freeman finished with a career-high seven 3-pointers on 14 attempts from beyond the arc. Ivo Baltic added 16 points and DeVaughn Washington chipped in 14. Ohio forced 18 turnovers, leading to 22 points.
The Rockets (4-20, 1-9) shot 50 percent from the field (12 of 24) in the second half, but never got within 12 points and trailed by as many as 24, 68-44, with 6:12 remaining.
Malcolm Griffin scored 16 points, Jay Shunnar added 13 and Reese Holliday and Justin Anyijong scored 11 each for Toledo, which has lost 11 of its last 12.
