PROCTORVILLE — John Leslie Allen, 63, of Proctorville, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his wife and children Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. He was born July 20, 1947, in Ironton. He was preceded in death by his father, William Edward Allen, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Ruby Ellis Bryant. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life for nearly 26 years, Bertha Bryant Allen; two sons and one daughter, Aaron “AJ” Allen and Amanda (Jared) Sowards, both of Proctorville, and John Allen II of South Point; his mother Priscilla (Tillie) Rowe Allen Vance of South Point; five brothers and three sisters, William “Bill” (Elaine) Allen, Sherman Allen, Thomas (Donna) Allen, Robert “Bob” (Gail) Allen, all of Ironton; Larry (Barbara) Allen of South Point, Carol Gubaci of Dearborn Mich., Janet “Sue” (Jeff) Gillum of South Point and Sheri (Timothy) Malone of Ironton. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family whom he loved dearly. He was an active member and trustee at Community Chapel Church in Proctorville. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He loved serving God and spending time with both his natural family and his church family. He had a great sense of humor that was evident throughout his long, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was always loving and kind with a willingness to help anyone that he could. The family would like to give thanks for all the prayers, cards, calls and food. A special thank you is given to Dr. Melin Moses, Dr. Maria Tria Tirona, Dr. Fuad Zeid, Dr. Rebecca Wolfer, and the staff at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House and Hospice of Huntington. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville by pastor and special friend, Brother Carl Black and Brother Kelly Stapleton. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens. VFW Post 6878, Proctorville will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be held 6 to 9 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home. Pallbearers are nephews, Ira Joe Bryant, Delano Bryant, Roy Bryant, Dwayne Allen, James Gorby, and special friend Jason Adams.
