PORTSMOUTH — Shawnee State University’s Clark Planetarium is offering free shows again this season beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10. The shows will run Mondays and Thursdays every week until the end of the semester the first week in May.

One of the current featured shows is “Two Small Pieces of Glass.”

The show traces the history of the telescope from Galileo’s modifications to spyglass — using two small pieces of glass — to the launch of NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope and the future of astronomy. It explores the wonder and discovery made by astronomers throughout the last 400 years.

Coming this fall, a new show, “IBEX: Search for the Edge of the Solar System” examines the boundary between our solar system and interstellar space. Using the IBEX spacecraft, scientists are making unprecedented observations of the outer shell of the solar system, heliosheath.

The planetarium has 18 different shows during the year for different age groups. Reservations can be made for school groups and organizations. All the shows are free and open to the public.
