The Panthers turned in a high-scoring performance for the second straight day as they routed the Parkersburg South (W.Va.) Patriots 78-53 in the Wendy’s River Cities Classic at Marietta College.

“We played well offensively, not perfect, but we played pretty well,” said Panthers’ coach Ryan Davis. “I thought we rebounded well in the first half.”

Powering the offense was Austin McMaster who scored 24 points including 20 in the first half as the Panthers remained unbeaten in seven games.

Eric Kennedy scored 12 points, Colin Kennedy had 10 while Nathan Copley and Javon Thompson got nine each.

McMaster scored eight points and Eric Kennedy four in the first quarter as the Panthers bolted to an 18-6 lead.

McMaster came back with 12 points in the second quarter and Thompson had five as the lead grew to 39-20 at the break.

Chesapeake continued its offensive onslaught in the third quarter by building a 63-33 cushion.

The Patriots scored 12 of their points in the quarter over the first two minutes and managed just one point the rest of the stanza.

The Panthers’ defense forced South into 28 turnovers.
