Herd rallies past JMU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Shaquille Johnson scored 10 of his 12 points and Nigel Spikes had 11 of his 13 rebounds in the second half as Marshall defeated James Madison 67-63 on Tuesday night.
The Thundering Herd (6-2) trailed 32-30 at halftime and shot 50 percent (13 of 26) after the break.
Marshall trailed 47-44 with 11:22 remaining, and went on a 10-3 run to lead 54-50 on Johnny Thomas’ 3 with 8:30 to go. It then went back and forth until Thomas’ jumper with 6:20 left to put the Thundering Herd up for good, 58-56, with 6:02 to play.
Tirrell Baines had 17 points for Marshall, Thomas 13 and DeAndre Kane 12.
The Thundering Herd, who have shot 71 percent from the foul line in its first two games — both wins, were 18 of 26 (69.2 percent) against James Madison (6-3).
The Dukes were led by Devon Moore with 19 points. Denzel Bowles added 13 and Humpty Hitchens 11 for James Madison.
