SOUTH POINT — If you want to play fast, Kayla Fletcher is ready to run.

The Ashland Kittens tried to use their running game against South Point Monday, but Fletcher’s speed proved too much as the Lady Pointers took a 64-42 win.

“Ashland is playing different this year. They’re pressing more and when you have someone who can break the press it helps a lot,” said South Point coach Dave Adams.

Fletcher scored 20 points as the Lady Pointers stayed unbeaten at 4-0. Allison Mitchell scored 18 points and also had nine rebounds while Erin Dillow scored 10 points and Kimmie Bennett grabbed 12 rebounds.

“We were able to get the ball inside. We played well defensively. They’ve been putting up a lot of points. We did a nice job on the boards and we had good balance on offense,” said Adams.

Fletcher scored 10 points including a layup just before the buzzer as South Point jumped out to a 26-8 first quarter lead. Mitchell added 7 points in the quarter.

The Lady Pointers forced Ashland into four turnovers and did not commit one in the opening quarter.

Fletcher 6 more in the second quarter as the Lady Pointers went up 37-18 at the half.

Ashland (4-1) got with 41-31 at the start of the third quarter as Kaylyn Gambill hit two 3-pointers and Madison Jones added another, but Jalynn Bradburn and Fletcher scored 4 points each and Angelica Stewart’s driving layup with 1:06 on the clock gave South Point a 50-31 lead.

The Lady Pointers outscored Ashland 14-11 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

“In the fourth quarter we were just trying to get a good shot,” said Adams.
