SOUTH POINT — Russell Eldon Smith, 89, of South Point, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with The Rev. Charles Jayne officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Russell was born July 14, 1921, in Centerburg, a son of the late John Eldon and Lavinna Ferguson Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and Russell Eugene Smith; three brothers; and five sisters. Russell was a retired water superintendent with the Village of South Point and a World War II Army Veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Stepp Smith; his ten children, Teresa Hall, Sheila Richardson, John Smith, Mike Smith, Crystal Kirk, Kathy Johnston, Randy Smith, Rusty Smith, Eric “Scoot” Smith, and Kim Hudson; 25 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
