Ashland Town Center to host holiday photo event for children with autism

ASHLAND, Ky. — Considering approximately three to six children out of every 1,000 have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), it can be difficult for families of children with autism to enjoy some of the holiday celebrations and traditions most people take for granted, including simple things like sitting on Santa’s lap in a busy shopping mall.

That is why families touched by ASD are invited to Ashland Town Center on Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. this season to celebrate “Sensitive Santa,” an event that caters to children with autism and allows them to enjoy one of the holiday’s joyous memories – sitting on Santa’s lap.

For the event, the Santa area will become “sensory friendly,” meaning the lights and music will be turned down, staff will be instructed to avoid loud, distracting movements, and the mall will be closed to shoppers. Ashland Town Center in partnership with Worldwide Photography will also provide each family that attends with a free 4 x 6 photo keepsake to commemorate the holiday season.

“We wanted to create an event that celebrates the spirit of the holiday season and brings a small, but memorable part of the holiday season to families with autism,” said Jaime Bloss, Marketing Director, Ashland Town Center. “‘Sensitive Santa’ will allow these children to experience the same enjoyment with Santa, but in a much calmer, less intimidating environment.”

Worldwide Photography is an alliance of special event photographers, established in 1998.

Worldwide services more than 200 major shopping malls in 45 states and ranks as one of the top

holiday event photography companies in the United States. Visit www.wwponline.com or

Cabell introduces studio-quality baby photo service

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Cabell Huntington Hospital now offers patients studio-quality newborn baby photos that give parents hands-on involvement in capturing the first photo images of their child’s life.

Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Maternity Services recently partnered with Charley’s Angels to provide patients with professional in-hospital newborn baby photography.

Charley’s Angels allows parents to be featured with their baby and they can set up and edit the photos according to their wishes. Parents choose a password and the password-protected baby photos can be viewed online within a day or two of being taken.

“Our moms and dads have been thrilled with the quality of these pictures and with how quickly they get to see the finished product,” said Emily Stacy, Nurse Manager of Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Mother-Baby Unit. “Because these images capture the most precious moments of a newborn’s life, our families have a unique opportunity to create a keepsake before they leave the hospital with their child.”

Photos and related products are generally less expensive than those offered by most baby photography services. Cabell Huntington is the only hospital in the tri-State to offer this level of quality in newborn photography.
