Turning the Lawrence County Animal Shelter into a more energy efficient operation is the goal of the commissioners as they apply for gridSmart funds from American Electric Power.
Interior and exterior lighting for the shelter is planned with close to $1,000 reserved for the project.
Commissioners filed the pre-approved application for the project at its regularly scheduled Thursday meeting. They also reserved $933.90 for the retro fitting. A review from the project team could result in an incentive refund. All replaced equipment must be recycled or disposed according to state and federal regulations.
Commissioners also received a notification from the Department of Commerce that all permits to sell alcoholic beverages in the county will expire on Feb. 1, 2010.
“In order to maintain permit privileges, every permit holder must file a renewal application,” according to a letter from Ernie Davis, acting superintendent of the division of liquor control.
In other business the commission:
• Announced that it will meet on Tuesday of next week because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
• Received the weekly dog warden report where 37 dogs were destroyed, seven sold and two redeemed.
