An Ironton man has been arrested on 140 counts of drug theft.

Phillip Barker, 37, of Ironton, is accused of stealing medication from the medication-dispensing machine at Three Rivers Medical Center in Lousia, Ky, according to a press release from the Kentucky State Police.

The alleged thefts took place in October and November of this year while he was employed as a nurse at the medical center. The KSP arrested Barker Wednesday on charges of theft of a controlled substance, a class-D felony.

Barker no longer works at the center, according to a statement from the hospital.

“The hospital takes this matter very seriously and is cooperating with the authorities,” the statement reads. “Because this is a matter that remains under investigation by the police, the hospital has no additional information to provide at this time.”

The case is still under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming, according to the KSP.

Barker is being held in the Boyd County Jail.
