Veterans all deserve our respect

It won’t get the overall attention reserved for Christmas. Celebrations won’t even begin to rival that of New Year’s Eve. Halloween spirit is significantly far more visibly across our community’s.

Yet, despite the relatively low public recognition, Veterans Day remains one of the most important holidays for our nation because it is fundamental to the foundation of America.

The old cliche is that, “freedom isn’t free.”

That is certainly true. Freedom is paid for with the blood, sweat and tears of thousands of selfless men and women.

On Veterans Day each and every American citizen should take time to reflect on the sacrifices made by these heroes who have and continue to put their lives on the line to protect all that we hold dear.

Without our veterans selflessly defending our way of life, the landscape of America would look vastly different. And it may not be the type of place we want to call home.

On this November day, take a few moments to reflect on a friend, family member or loved one who has served the country. If possible, talk to them about what they experienced and why they chose to answer the call of duty.

Then, pass that along to someone else.

Americans have a responsibility to pay their respects to all the veterans — those serving and those who have served — who have shown the courage and conviction to ensure America stays the greatest nation.
