Robert Eugene Dean

Robert Eugene Dean, 82, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Russell, Ky., native was born Dec. 12, 1927, the son of the late Benjamin Roland Dean and Clyda Ellis Dean.

Mr. Dean was a 1946 graduate of Ironton High School and of the Baptist faith. He retired from the United States Marine Corps in 1965 after serving 20 years and was a Korean War veteran. He worked the next 25 years for IBM and retired in 1990. He was a member of the Lawrence Lodge #198 F & AM for 60 years and a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Dean.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Schmidt Dean whom he married Sept. 19, 1953; daughter and son in law, Cynthia and Kenneth Koerper of Ironton; granddaughter, Rebecca Jane Wrenn of Ironton; grandson, Jeremy Wayne Wrenn of Ironton; three stepgrandchildren, Kenna (Scott) Gifford, Melanie (Ben) Mullins and Melissa Koerper; and five stepgreat grandchildren, Jared and Ryan Gifford and Benjamin, Bradley and Brayden Mullins.

Services will be Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home. A Masonic service by Lawrence Lodge #198 F & AM will begin at 1 p.m. and the funeral service with Rev. Dennis Strawn officiating will immediately follow. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery with military grave side rites provided by VFW Post 8850.
