One dead in South Point house fire

SOUTH POINT — One person was killed in a house fire in South Point early this morning.

The fire was reported at approximately 3:30 a.m. at a mobile home at 183 Township Rd. 1336, South Point, according to the Ohio Division of State Fire Marshal’s office.

The victim’s identity, including age and sex, has not been determined by investigators. The blaze completely destroyed the residence. It is not clear whether the house was equipped with smoke detectors.

Investigators are on the scene conducting interviews with witnesses and first responders. The investigation is being conducted by the state fire marshal, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office and the Fayette Township Fire Department.

This death marks the 119th fire-related death reported to the fire marshal this year.

Burlington, South Point and Chesapeake Fire Departments, as well as SEOEMS, responded to the fire.
