Edward Lee Hankins

Edward Lee Hankins, 73, of Ironton, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. Edward was a loving father and grandfather and lived for his friends and family.
Edward was born March 5, 1937, in Forestdale, a son of the late Fred Hankins and Ava Morrison Hankins.
He was retired from the CSX car shop, was a machinist and former owner of Hankins IGA and Hankins’ Ashland Oil. He was of the Baptist faith and was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Korean conflict.
Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Hankins and William Hankins.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Kirsch Hankins; two sons, Richard Lee Hankins and wife, Danita, and Randy Scott Hankins, all of Ironton; a daughter, Tammi Lynn Jenkins and husband John of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Earl Hankins of Ironton, Fred Hankins and his wife Betty of Coal Grove and Phoebe Hankins of Coal Grove; sister and best buddy, Betty Jo Meenach of Melrose, Ky.; six grandchildren, Amber Wroblewski, Andrea Clark, Jordan Hankins, Whitney Jenkins, Brandon Jenkins and Chelsea Hankins; and four great-grandchildren, Nathan Wroblewski, Megan Wroblewski, Taylor Clark and Alyssa Clark.
Funeral will be at noon Saturday at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland, Ky. with the Rev. Jim Beals and the Rev. Ryan McKee. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Kenova Post 93.
