INDIANAPOLIS — With 12 teams in the league, the Big Ten can now host a conference championship game in football.
Nebraska joined the league Friday and commissioner Jim Delany says he assumes there will be a title game at some point.
Indiana Sports Corp. has had a hand in bringing everything from U.S. Olympics trials to the Super Bowl to Indianapolis. Spokesman John Dedman says the group would be interested in landing a Big Ten football championship game.
The game could be played in Lucas Oil Stadium, which seats 63,000 for Colts games. The retractable roof would allow conference officials to play the game indoors or outdoors.
The stadium has already hosted an NCAA men’s Final Four, an NCAA men’s regional and will host the NCAA women’s Final Four next season in addition to the Super Bowl after the 2011 season.
