VERNA DELONG MARTIN

Verna Mae DeLong Martin, 63, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Kitts Hill native was born Jan. 2, 1947, the daughter of the late Robert DeLong Jr. and Esta Faith Bridges DeLong.
Mrs. Martin was a 1965 graduate of Rock Hill High School, a member of the Moose Lodge 701 and a Junior. Grad Regent of the Women’s Auxillary. She was an avid bowler and a past officer of the Portsmouth Women’s Bowling Association. She was also owner/operator of Verna’s Catering, for 15 years and retired from Sparetime Recreation in Ironton. She attended Mamre Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Janice Kay DeLong; and a brother and sister-in-law: Ray and Faye DeLong
She is survived by her companion, James Bloomfield of Ironton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy McFann of Kitts Hill and Teresa and Mike Rife of Ironton; a son and daughter-in-law, Merrell and Juanita Harper of Kitts Hill; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Missy Martin of Raleigh, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy “Dottie” Hutchinson and Patty and John Mangham, all of Mesquite, Texas; a brother, Mike DeLong of South Point; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lodge Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
