RIO GRANDE — Allison Chapman is in mid-season form a little early.

Chapman threw a 2-hitter as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers blanked the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets 4-0 Friday at the University of Rio Grande.

“That was probably the best game she’s thrown all year,” said Lady Panthers coach Aaron Rice.

“We got good pitching, and when you get that you’ll keep yourself in the game and give yourself a shot.”

Chapman gave Chesapeake an excellent chance with the 2-hitter that included 15 strikeouts and no walks.

The Lady Panthers got the only run they needed in the second inning when Courtney Heffner doubled, Myky Harmon walked and Sarah Rice delivered an RBI single to centerfield.

Chesapeake got two insurance runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Chapman and Casey Kirk singled to start the fifth, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on a 2-run single by Heffner.

Taylor Riggs singled with one out in the sixth, went to second base on a wild pitch and scored on Chapman’s base hit.

Chesapeake (6-2) plays at Fairland Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
