Two people were arrested this week after they tried to sell drugs on the streets of Ironton. The bust also netted 76 pills.

Darren Elswick, 44, of 275 S. Third St., and Eloise Elswick, 43, of 51 Township Road 510 N., Ironton, were each charged with trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs and were taken to the Lawrence County Jail.

Ironton Police Chief Jim Carey said a children services worker was in the 900 block of Center Street talking to a man when Darren Elswick allegedly walked up to the man the CS worker was talking to and offered to sell the man drugs.

The CS worker notified police and although Elswick allegedly left the scene, the vehicle he was riding in was stopped a short time later.

Carey said two syringes were seized in the arrests, along with 20 oxycodone pills, 16 loracet pills, 26 klonapin pills and 30 percocet pills.

He estimated the pills have a street value of approximately $800.
