WILLOW WOOD — Ya gotta love those halftime talks.

Coach Lisa Bryant cleared up a couple of things at halftime and the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings responded well as they beat the Green Lady Bobcats 61-50 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

After leading by just two points at the break, the Lady Vikings outscored Green 21-12 in the third quarter to provide the difference in the game.

“After making some offensive adjustments at the half and getting after my players for not doing a better job on the boards, we came out and did both really well in the second half,” said Bryant.

Jessie Morris and Brooke Skinner provided the offensive spark in the third quarter as they combined for 17 points. Adrianne Blankenship hit a pair of 3-pointers to keep Green within striking distance.

Ali Suttles scored 7 points in the fourth quarter to try and rally Green, but Chelsea Wall, Morris and Skinner had 4 points each to help the Lady Vikings seal the win.

“Both teams played physical and both teams got after each other on the defensive end. That is the way this game has always been between these two schools,” said Bryant.

Lauren Jones had 7 points in the first quarter to give Green a 13-10 lead.

Morris heated up and scored 9 points in the second quarter as the Lady Vikings rallied to take a 21-19 halftime lead.

“We started out tonight being impatient on the offensive end,” said Bryant. “After we settled down late in the second quarter we took the lead.”

Morris put together a big all-around game with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Skinner had 14 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double while Wall added 9 points and 6 rebounds.

Nikki Nance had 7 rebounds as the Lady Vikings collected 41 for the game.

Jones had 18 points and Blankenship 16 to lead Green (6-6, 4-5). Suttles finished with 11 points.

Symmes Valley hosts Latham Western in a league game on Monday. Saturday’s game at Rock Hill has been moved to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30.
