WILLOW WOOD — First-year head coach Jerome Fuller has only seen his team play four games, but he likes what he’s seen.
Fuller was pleased with the looks of things Tuesday as the Symmes Valley Vikings beat the St. Joseph Flyers 83-53.
“I was definitely happy with the defense the first half. We’re speeding the game up and getting our intensity going,” said Fuller.
“We’re taking better shots and shooting a better percentage, and we’re rebounding. We’re not selfish. We’re spreading the ball around.”
Spreading the ball around led to three players in double figures and 10 different players scoring.
Luke Taylor had 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Vikings (3-1). Kris Tibbs had 14 points, Josh Craft scored 13 and Hunter Johnson grabbed 10 rebounds.
“Taylor and Johnson have a great knack for the ball. When the ball comes off the rim, they always seem to get it,” said Fuller.
Taylor scored 11 points in the first quarter as the Vikings took a 23-13 lead.
The Flyers went cold in the second quarter and scored just 4 points as the Vikings extended their lead to 40-17 at the break.
Justin Mahlmeister led St. Joseph (1-4) with 14 points while Payton Blair scored 12 and Joe Unger 9.
