PEDRO — It was a good start, but it just didn’t last long enough.
Rock Hill played well in the first quarter, but the River Valley Lady Raiders took control in the second quarter and went on to beat the Redwomen 64-37 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We played well early, but River Valley has a lot of size and it was hard for us to match up with them,” said Rock Hill coach Alvin Carpenter.
River Valley’s front line of 6-foot-2 Tracy Roberts, 6-0 Brooke Marcum and 5-10 Jenna Ward combined for 38 points.
Chelsea Harper had 15 points including four 3-pointers to lead Rock Hill (0-2, 0-1). Brittany Thompson and Dani Crabtree grabbed 8 rebounds each.
River Valley (3-1, 1-0) led just 10-7 at the end of the first quarter but pulled away to a 29-15 halftime lead.
Marcum had 9 of her 12 points in the third quarter as River Valley opened up a 50-18 lead. Ward scored 9 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter
