PROCTORVILLE — A tie between two candidates for Proctorville Council will probably mean a recount as five vied for four seats on the village’s governing body.
Top vote getter was incumbent Larry David Peters who got 80 votes out of a total of 349 cast. Next highest were newcomers Brenda Chapman and Justin Wurtzler, who both pulled in 76 votes or just under 22 percent.
Both Chapman, a manager at Wendy’s and Wurtzler, store manager for Lowe’s, campaigned on platforms that would offer more recreational opportunities for children and beautify the village.
The other incumbent in the race was Raymond Wes Shephard who got 20 percent or 70 votes.
The fifth candidate, Jeffrey Chapman received 47 votes or just under 14 percent of the total. The four winners will join Dale Burcham and Jerry Thompson, taking the place of Gary Whitley and Fred Cooper who are leaving council.
