More eligible for heating assistance
The HEAP staff of the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization has issued new guidelines to determine eligibility for winter heating assistance.
Income guidelines have increased for 2009-2010 in order to service more of the community.
If you are facing a disconnection of your electric and/or gas utility service or have less than 25 percent of home heating fuel, you may qualify for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) emergency assistance through the Winter Crisis Program effective Nov. 1 through March 31, 2010.
A qualified household can receive up to $600 for propane/bottled gas, kerosene and fuel oil (25 percent or less in tank), or $350 for wood or coal or $175 for American Electric Power and Columbia Gas or $250 for Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative.
You must provide both electric and heat source bills. A disconnect on your utility bill is mandatory for the utility receiving assistance. If disabled, your must provide proof of the disability in order to be considered for an increased benefit.
An appointment is advised, however, walk-ins are welcome. To make an appointment please call 740-532-3534 and select option 1. Please listen to all information and bring required documents to the interview.
