James Willie “Zeek” Pons, 66, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
He was born Oct. 26, 1942, a son of the late Maggie Washington. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was formerly employed by the city of Ironton sanitation department. He was an active member of American legion Post 590 of Ironton and he was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Tyrone and a brother, Casey Colvin.
He is survived by his fiancé, Terra Kelsor of Ironton; two daughters, Bretta Howard and Tracie Howard, both of Portsmouth; two sons, James Howard of Portsmouth and Douglas Martin of Cincinnati; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Hecla Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. 8850. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call 8-10 p.m. today and noon until time of service Tuesday at the funeral chapel. The family requests that donations be made directly to the funeral chapel to help with final expenses.
