“This was a great example of residents looking out for neighbors.”
That was the way Ironton Police Chief Jim Carey described a weekend burglary arrest.
Carl Holston, 42, of 906 Latonia St., was taken into custody Saturday and booked at the Lawrence County Jail.
Carey said just after 4:30 p.m., the police department received several telephone calls from residents in the 900 block of Latonia Street who were watching a burglary in progress.
“The owner was not there and they heard glass breaking and saw him coming back and forth,” Carey said. Holston was arrested at his residence a short time later.
Holston is listed as a registered sex offender.
According to the Ohio sex offender registry, Holston is on probation for an earlier rape conviction. He is listed at a Tier III sex offender.
Carey applauded the residents whose phone calls turned an alleged victimization into arrest.
“They called, they reported. You don’t see that a lot of times,” Carey said.
Holston was arraigned Monday in Ironton Municipal Court.
