SWANSEA, S.C. — Joseph Edwin Hill Jr., 68, of Swansea, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, S.C. The Ironton native was born May 17, 1941, the son of the late Joseph and Edith Hill.
Mr. Hill was a 1959 honor graduate of Ironton High School and a graduate of Midlands Technical College in Columbia. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War with the 101st Airborne Division. He was also a Purple Heart recipient. He retired form the Army with 20 years of service. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 25 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy A. Hill. He is survived by three brothers, James Michael and Sierra Hill, Robert F. and Kimberly Hill, and Jason A. and Amy Hill, all of Ironton; two sisters, Geneva M. Clemons of Columbus and Cathy C. and Philip Artis of Ironton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery with Linda Jennings officiating. VFW 8850 will provide military honors.
