RUSSELL, Ky. — Helen Moore, 89, of Russell, passed away Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Portsmouth native was born Sept. 4, 1919, the daughter of the late Curtis and Katherine Miller Whitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Moore, who passed away Jan. 4, 1989.
Mrs. Moore was an aide for the Lawrence County General Hospital for several years and also worked for the Henrites Corp. She attended the Oak Street Freewill Baptist Church and was a resident at Morning Pointe Assisted Living Community in Russell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Rose, who passed away Jan. 10, 2004.
She is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Irma Jean and Earl Hankins and Dorothy “Dukie” and Phil Pelfrey, all of Ironton; three grandchildren, Shawn and Dawn Rose of Ironton, Kristi and Eric Layne of Brookeville, Md., and Kelli and Brett Hall of Huntington, W.Va.; and five great grandchildren, Heather Rose and Holli Rose both of Ironton, Bradley Layne and Adam Layne both of Brookeville, Md., and Gabrielle Hall of Huntington, W.Va.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Philllips Funeral Home with Brother Shawn Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
