BULL SHOALS, Ark. — Robert L. Doolin, 82, of Bull Shoals, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House in Arkansas.
The Ironton native was born Oct. 26, 1926, the son of the late Jeff and Delphia Doolin. He married Nora Hardy on Nov. 7, 1976 at Franklin Furnace. Robert was a retired tool and dye operator. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Robert lived in Bull Shoals 19 years, moving from Ferndale, Mich. He served as mayor of Bull Shoals from 1996-1999. He was a member of the Bull Shoals Retirement Fishing Club, life member of the North American Fishing Club and a member of the NRA. He was a life member of the Hoevel-Barnett Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1341 and a charter commander of the Bull Shoals American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Nora Doolin of Bull Shoals; one son Robert Doolin, Jr. of Wheelersburg; six daughters, Robyn (Bob) Marsh of Wheelersburg, Sharri (Andrew) Moose of Marion, Melissa Platt of Jacksonville, Fla., Sonya (Chris) Dudas of North Branch, Mich., Brenda (Clyde) Blackledge of Branden, Miss. and Tina Gravely of Jacksonville; 18 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Jeff Doolin of Rochester Hills, Mich.; and a sister, Mary Henderlight of Berkley, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one son and six brothers.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Cyrus officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
