SCOTTOWN — Helen Marie Dunfee, 81, of Scottown, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, at her residence.
The Lawrence County native was born July 2, 1927, the daughter of the late James Leffingwell and Gertrude Schneider Leffingwell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd K. Dunfee, who passed away May 22, 1984.
Mrs. Dunfee was a graduate of Windsor High School, a former employee for Sylvania, where she constructed airplane parts and was also former owner/operator of Dunfee Grocery for 10 years. She was a member of Perkins Ridge Missionary Baptist Church for more than 65 years and was loved and will be dearly missed by her church family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Carpenter.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Michael Herrell of Scottown; two grandchildren, Amy Unrue and her husband, Adam of Ironton and Michelle Herrell of Columbia, S.C.; and a sister, Lorene Saunders of Jamestown, Ky.
Graveside services will be 1p.m. Thursday at Perkins Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Comer officiating. Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Thursday at Perkins Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. Donations may be made to the Perkins Ridge Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund. Pallbearers will be Adam Unrue, Phillip Saunders, Joe Rothman, Mark Capper, James Hayes, Bob Whitten and Harry Salmons.
