RIO GRANDE — Their age finally caught up with them.
The Rock Hill Redwomen stepped on the Division III district semifinal field at the University of Rio Grande with a lineup that had just two seniors.
That lack of veterans took its toll as Rock Hill committed four errors in a 10-0 loss to the Unioto Lady Shermans on Tuesday.
“We just didn’t play the way we’re capable. We played well for four innings and then something happen,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Harper.
“Maybe our nerves got to us. We’re such a young team. I don’t know. But we just didn’t play well.”
Rock Hill managed just three hits as Courtney Damron went 2-2 and Megan Russell 1-2.
However, Rock Hill had runners at first and second with no outs early in the game but couldn’t cash in.
Unioto then scored three runs in the third inning to snap the scoreless tie and pushed across seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The loss leaves Rock Hill with a 12-7 in what was expected to be a rebuilding season.
“We’ve had a good season. These girls accomplished a lot more than anyone expected,” said Harper.
Senior pitcher Maria Murray got the win for Unioto as she struck out 11 and did not walk a batter.
Jazel DeAutremont, who along with Kassie Large were Rock Hill’s only seniors, took the loss as she struck out six, walked two and allowed eight hits.
Unioto (19-5) advances to face Wheelersburg in the district finals at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Wheelersburg beat Peebles 9-0 in the other semifinal game.
