REV. FRED BLAGG

Rev. Fred Samuel Blagg, 79, of Pedro, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness. The Pedro native was born March 29, 1930, the son of the late Harley and Elsie Kerns Blagg.
Mr. Blagg was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War and was a Silver Star recipient.
He retired in 1995 after 22 years with the Lawrence County Department of Human Services. He was the Pastor of Blackfork Free Will Baptist Church and loved working outdoors.
Fred also pastored Lick Creek Church, Kelley’s Bridge Church, and Symmes Valley Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson Matthew David Watson; three brothers, George, Bill and Roy Blagg; six sisters, Ailene Sherrick, Gert Knipp, Bonnie Aldridge, Patsy Blagg, Myrtle Blagg and Helen Blagg; stepmother, Dorothy Friend Blagg; stepsister, Hester Straight; step-brothers, Kenny Friend and Clarence Friend.
He is survived by his wife Carol Kidd Blagg, who he married January 17, 1953; eights sons and three daughters-in-law, Larry Blagg of Ironton; Fred E. and Maida Blagg, Roger Blagg, Tim and Glenda Blagg, Jeff Blagg, Ronnie and Carrie Blagg, Kenny Blagg and Steven Blagg, all of Pedro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Roger Watson, Jane and Jeff Phillips and Debbie and Gary Noel, all of Pedro; 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lynda DePriest of Pedro and Betty Sayre of Tipp City; three step-sisters, Reba Layne, Janice Seabert and Darlene Endicott all of Marion; four step-brothers, Danny Friend, Everett Friend and John Friend all of Marion and Elroy Friend of Waterloo.
Funeral service will Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Greene and Rev. Jesse Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in Blagg Cemetery with military graveside rites by V.F.W. Post 8850. Friends may call Monday evening from 6 until 9 P.M. at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S.
