Hat party to help local children

IRONTON — The Women’s Missionary Society of Quinn Chapel AME Church will feature a Tea and Hat Party Saturday.

There will be a variety of hats designed and made by the church’s pastor, Melonie Valentine, available for a donation. The tea will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at the chapel’s fellowship room.

Money raised will go to the Secret Santa program at the Job and Family Services.

Health care agency comes to Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE — A&A Care Givers will be expanding into Lawrence County, with a new location in Chesapeake. This is the first location of the company in Ohio that offers caregiving and health care services in Cabell, Wayne, Putnam and Kanawha counties.

The owners anticipate the creation of 14 full and part time caregivers, registered nurses and management position at the Chesapeake location. There are also plans to open up a second Ohio location.

Shelter, Belk team up for event

IRONTON — The Lawrence County Domestic Violence Task Force is participating in a “Charity Sale,” sponsored by Belk, Inc, Saturday, May 2, from 6 to 10 a.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased for $5 from the task force.

There will be special prices on rarely discounted brands at Belks and ticket holders will get $5 off their first purchase during these early morning shopping hours.

Every ticket sold will become a $5 donation to the domestic violence shelter.

Farm Bureau offering scholarships

JACKSON — The Lawrence County Farm Bureau is offering a $250 to an eligible Lawrence County college student. The successful applicant must be a high school senior or be enrolled in a two-year or four-year college studying agriculture or a related field (home economics, agronomy or marketing, for instance).

This scholarship is meant to encourage and support those students who plan to give back to agriculture.

The deadline to apply is June 16. Applications are available at the farm bureau office, 231 Broadway Street in Jackson of from any Lawrence County School guidance counselor. For more information call 1-800-777-9226.

BCPL hosts Tea and Mystery program

ASHLAND, Ky. — The Tea & Mystery program scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at Boyd County Public Library has been rescheduled at the request of the presenter.

Mystery writer Rebecca Benston will present the program, which includes a discussion of mystery genres and a game of “whodunit,” on Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m. at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave.
