FRANKLIN FURNACE — Raymond Frederick McGraw, 78 of Franklin Furnace, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Ky.
He was born May 25, 1930, in Scioto County to the late William Ernest and Marietta Blair McGraw. He was a superintendent at the Ironton County Club for 20 years and retired from Aristech Chemical Plant in Haverhill.
He was a U.S. Army veteran where he was a member of 1st Division of the 26th Infantry, a member of AMVETS and James Dickey Post 23 American Legion.
Along with his parents Raymond was preceded in death by two brothers, William Earnest Jr. and Franklin Delano McGraw.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 56 years, Johanna Grimme McGraw, whom he married on Jan. 14, 1953, in Bamberg, Germany; a son and his wife, Raymond C and Penny McGraw of Franklin Furnace; a daughter and her husband, Donna J and William Roger Boyd of Ironton; two granddaughters and their husbands, Angela and Kevin Risner and Carrie and Danny Knight all of Wheelersburg; a great granddaughter, Madison Knight of Wheelersburg; three brothers, Clyde McGraw of West Portsmouth, Herbert McGraw of Pensacola, Fl and Douglas McGraw of Portsmouth; two sisters, Vanda Zuffle of McDermott and Mabel Vassar of Smith Mountain Lake, Va,; two brothers-in-law, Hubert Grimme of Alt-Ottingen, Germany and Horst Grimme of Hochstadt, Germany; two sisters-in-law, Christel Fuchshuber of Ampfing, Germany and Heidi Niedermeier of Kallmunz, Germany.
Graveside services were 2 p.m. Saturday at Scioto Burial Park in McDermott with the Rev. Dennis Hankins officiating.
