Wanda Lee Kitts, 86, of Ironton, formerly of Kitts Hill, passed away Thursday, Jan.15, 2009, at a local health care center.
The Lawrence County native was born March 29, 1922, the daughter of the late James and Carrie Sherman Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Kitts, who passed away in 1991.
Mrs. Kitts was a graduate of Kitts Hill High School. She was a former clerk at the Lawrence County Clerk of Courts office and a former co-owner with her husband of Kitts Grocery. She retired after 35 years of service as a clerk and postmaster with U.S. Postal Service at the Kitts Hill Post Office and was a former member of Mamre Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Surace; four sisters, Thelma Louise Johnson, Helen Ruth Johnson, Goldie Bennett and Vera Johnson and two brothers, Milton Johnson and Sherman Johnson.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol J. Kitts of Ironton; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Helen Kitts of Maineville; a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Fern Johnson of Ironton; two grandsons, David Surace of Baton Rouge, La., and Jonathan Kitts of Maineville and a granddaughter, Alicia Kitts of Maineville.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Lee Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
