Clyde Raymond Mooney, 91, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. He was the husband of the late Geraldine Lambert Mooney, whom he married Nov. 22, 1947. The Ironton native was born June 16, 1917, the son of the late Bernard and Josephine Davis Mooney.
Mr. Mooney was a graduate of Ironton High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served from 1942-1946. He was also a boilermaker with the C&O Railroad and was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his wife and parents he is preceded in death by brothers, Herbert Mooney, Andy Mooney, and Eugene Mooney; and a sister, Bernice Eiker.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Carl “Butch” and Gretchen Mooney of Mt. Gilead; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Steve Cordle of Rush, Ky.; sister, Lois Swing of Matthews, N.C.;
grandchildren, Laura Lee, Matthew and Jodi Mooney, Jeremy Mooney and Courtney and John Floyd; and great-grandchildren, Montana Lee, Brooke Mooney, Caden Floyd and Sophie Floyd.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park with military rites by VFW 8850. Friends may call Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
