JOHN SHARP

PEDRO — John Everette Sharp, 83 of Pedro, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, after an extended illness. He was the son of the late Harl and Ann Sharp, born in Center Station on Dec.11,1925.
He is survived by his wife Helen (McCorkle) Sharp to whom he was married for 61 years.
John Attended Decateur schools and went into the Navy. He was a Veteran of World War II, receiving several medals and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was retired from Allied Chemical in 1980.
John spent his whole life in Lawrence County where he enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul Sharp, Edward Sharp, Garland Sharp, and Kenney Sharp; and three sisters, Ruth Sizeman, Georgeanne Evans and Ora Lee Brady.
In addition to his wife John is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Mary Sharp of Pedro, and Randall and Connie Sharp of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Melissa and Scott Day, John V. and Tracy Sharp and Candance Sharp; three great grandchildren, Victor Lee Day, Emily Sharp and Lukas Sharp; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Monday at Lawrence Furnace Cemetery with Jesse Sizemore officiating. V.F.W. Post 8850 will provide military services at the cemetery. Visitation is from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. Monday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home.
