Jr. Hornets roll by Lions

CANNONSBURG, Ky. — Some days it’s just hard to get going and that’s just what happened to Coal Grove Junior Hornets.

After finding themselves behind 6-0 at the end of the first quarter to the Boyd Co. Wildcats, the Hornets rattled off the next 40 points in route to a 40-6 victory.

Down 6-0, Tanner Dutey and Aaron Wilson hooked up on a 24-yard scoring strike. Kyle Estep added the two-points giving the Hornets an 8-6 lead.

Coal Grove’s Bryan returned a punt 62 yards for the score and it was 14-6.

Dutey to Wilson had a 17-yard TD pass and it was 20-6 at the half.

The Hornets went 65 yards in five plays to start the third quarter as Kyle Estep broke loose for a 43-yard run and it was 26-6.

Estep’s 1-yard TD run capped a five minute drive and Levi Wyatt’s conversion kick made it 33-6.

Brandon Hogsten ran for the final CGMS touchdown.

The Hornets rushed 25 times for 234 yards. Dutey was 3 of 6 passing for 61 yards and two TD. Estep ran 14 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Hogsten had 58 yards on seven carries and a score.

The Black Attack defense was led by Estep with six tackles and Wyatt with five tackles and a fumble recovery. Dutey had an interception. The Wildcats (1-2) rushed for 54 yards and passed for 26.

The Jr. Hornets (2-0) played at South Point Thursday.
