COAL GROVE — If good hitting was a movie, the South Point Pointers would be a box office success.

Conversely, the Coal Grove Hornets would be on the movie rental shelves.

South Point collected 12 hits and downed the Hornets 9-2 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We haven’t hit a thing the last two nights. We had the bases loaded once or twice and couldn’t get the hits to get them in,” said Hornets coach John Jones.

Kyle Dickess was 3-5, Jacob Seagraves went 2-5 and Steven McClure 2-4 to lead the Hornets. Seagraves also pitched a complete game for the win as he struck out 12 and walked just one.

The Pointers got a run in the first inning when Dickess and Seagraves singled and Tyler Smith reached on an error.

South Point came back with four runs in the second inning to lead 5-0.

Jake Adkins doubled and McClure had an RBI single. Jordan Fletcher walked and Beau Weed hit a three-run homer.

The Hornets pushed across a run in the third inning to get within 5-1.

Alex Johnson reached on an error, stole second and came home on a hit by Shannon Goodwin.

But the Pointers (5-3, 2-1) scored three times in the fifth inning and it was 8-1.

Seagraves singled and Smith was safe on a fielder’s choice to put runners at first and second. Kyle Hughes singled to load the bases and Josh Esque had a two-run double. Dickess followed with a two-out RBI single.

The Hornets (4-3, 3-1) got a run in the bottom of the inning when Johnson singled, stole second and Taylor Dean had a run-scoring single.

South Point got the run back in the seventh when Dickess doubled and Seagraves reached on an error.

Johnson was 3-4 and Dean 2-3 for the Hornets.
